MUSING ON “FORGIVENESS”

Ephesians 4:31-32 KJV
Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: [32] And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

When you are hurt, you don’t just forget the hurt, or self justify the persons actions, or tolerate the behaviour, or deny the wrong doing, you have to deliberately deal with it, otherwise it will lead to unforgiving spirit.

We need to have a response, choosing to say, no one can make me resentful, no one can make me depressed, no one can make me hate, no one will damage and hamper my emotions.
If you feel you have done all you can and still can’t weather the hurt, the resentment, the anger, you can start by asking this question, why I’m I not free to love? What is there inside of me that maybe I have never dealt with?

You can’t hold on to resentment and hurt and be right with God. It will erode your relationship with God.

Some hold on to their resentment, hurt and anger, and are unwilling to go through the process of forgiveness, because forgiveness can be a piercing pain, its like stepping barefoot on a nail, it hurts when you step on it, its even more excruciating when you try to remove it..

Would you ignore the nail to save yourself from the pain of extraction or get it removed to save yourself from a full-blown gangrene infection?

Please say this prayer with me…

Father I want to thank you for the privilege and grace of forgiving me on the cross, and paying all of my debt in full, I choose to forgive, I lay down all the hurt that has been in me for years and years, let the healing process begin to take place right now in Jesus name, Amen.
